Harec is a vertically rectangular – shaped building of 15 floors. Due to a good implementation of energy efficient solutions, the building honorably received the consolation prize of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Vietnam’s Energy Efficient Buildings Competition for the Energy Efficiency Buildings Contest in 2011. The typical methods applied in the building were to use energy saving lamps, install a reflective film for windows.

Installation of reflective film for windows
The glass windows of the outside layer are covered with a reflective film (reflective index = 0.8) to reduce the heat gain throughout the building, saving 39,620 kWh/year.
Replacement of inefficient lightings reduces 25,023 kWh annually, which includes:
– Replacement of 716 (40W) T10 flouresent lamps by (36W) T5 flouresent lamps in the office areas.
– Replacement of 8 (250W) high – pressure mercury lamps by (100W) Compact fluorescent lamps in the outdoor public areas.
– Replacement of 225 (75W) downlight lamps by (14W) Compact fluorescent lamps.
Replacementof five CCTV screens of 300 W capacity with by 36W capacity one, saving 11,563 kWh/year.
Monitoring manually the operation of water pumps and extraction fans to avoid them working during peak hours.
Implementation of preventative maintenance programme, repair and replacement plan is implement for each family of equipment
Qualified and trained Technical Staff (6 members) in several fields such as eletricity, electronics, carpentry and construction
Two sub contractors are responsible for maintenance air conditioning system and elevators.
Organisation of from one to two training courses to raise staff awareness about effective energy usage such as how to operate efficiently significant energy systems every year.
